Not sure what the delay was here, but Aston Villa have finally announced the capture of Brentford striker Scott Hogan.

The player moves to Villa Park and presumably can get the coach back with the players from Griffin Park this evening to help him settle in for an officially undisclosed fee but a fee that is being reported as £9million up front with £12million for clauses or alternatively £15million straight off the bat.

He signs a four and a half year deal at Villa and he will certainly bring us a different type of option in the final third.

He leaves Brentford having scored 14 times so far in 2016/17.

Speaking to the Official Site Hogan couldn’t wait to get started.

‘I`m delighted to be at a club like Aston Villa. With its history and tradition I can`t wait to start working hard and helping the team. It all happened quite quickly and now I’m looking forward to meeting my new team-mates tomorrow and beginning a new chapter in my career.’

The 24 year old began life at Rochdale and Spotland as a youngster, moving onto Halifax as best I can tell. He returned to Spotland and more than started making a name for himself with a return of 19 goals in 35 stats and five further substitute showings.

That earned him a nice money move to Brentford in the summer of 2014 for just shy of the £1million mark, but he was hit with a double cruciate ligament knee injury and found himself pretty much on the sidelines for most of his time with tonight’s opposition.

This season as he rebuilds himself from the second injury he’s scored 14 times in 27 appearances and his form as starting gaining the interest of the Republic of Ireland set up, but last season – again recovering from his first injury – he only made seven appearances but with a return of seven goals before he was struck down again.

He only got through two appearances before the first injury hit in his opening campaign with them in 2014/15 so clearly they haven’t seen the best of him and we just have to hope we do.

With basically two seasons wiped from his career, a record that shows 43 goals in a total 87 games shows he knows where the net is.
