With the summer transfer rumour mill linking Aston Villa with an apparent interest in Bristol City centre-half Adam Webster, it’s fair to say that plenty of fans were less than impressed with the reported £30million valuation the Ashton Gate outfit had placed on his head.
Initial reports, as above, suggested that they had rejected a straight £12million offer for the 24-year-old but that had instantly been rebuffed with the club holding out for over double that. With additional reports also suggesting that City had a firm interest in out of favour striker Scott Hogan, it’s not that much of a leap to believe that if both interests are true, then there will be a cash + player swap option open to us – it might just be a case of waiting until later in the window before that becomes a more plausible option to them.
In any event, although Webster didn’t catch my eye last season, it seems he has impressed plenty in his first 12 months at the club and Bristol City’s social media team celebrated his arrival with a simple request to fans.
One year ago today, @AdamWebster31 became a Robin! 😍

It doesn’t matter what you call the response, different fans will have different thoughts over a hijack like this, but I must admit it made me smile. There was plenty of praise from Robins fans as you can see on the above Tweet, but even they seemed to see the opportunity to comment on the speculation – as did a number of our fans (although plenty seemed to forget it supposed to be one word).
