It may come as a shock to regular readers but I have a friend! I saw his post on his facebook page and thought it worthy of publishing, especially as it echoes pretty much what I was going to write this morning.

We all knew that Bruce was never going to be afforded much time this season and so it has come to pass.

There have been too many draws and the messing around of the defence proved to be his undoing. Blues fans were telling me when he took over that he has no plan B and that’s been proved correct.

I for one will always thank Bruce because for the first time in many years he galvanised us.

The way he came back to work after the death of both parents in a matter of days is testament to him and his record of getting teams up was excellent. It just wasn’t to be with us, although we came close last season.

Our 8-year slide is still catching up with us. Who next? I do not have the answer. None of us do, but please Villa fans – afford them a little time and put away those damn bed sheets (and veg). I cannot be doing with the modern football fan who shouts (sic) out at the slightest of turns and offers no salience as to the reasons why and who should replace. We do seem to have our fair share, although it’s interesting that my good mate Jonathan Fear (in his capacity as a football blogger who has contacts all over the UK) states that we are not alone. I am glad to say that the vast majority of Villa fans on my FB are not like that, and certainly not the ones I sit with and who I used to as well, in the last 43 years.

So amazingly rich custodians – In my eyes you were right to keep Bruce on. It just hasn’t worked out. Over to you now….
