We are interested in signing Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Sean Clare, according to the Mirror (via the Birmingham Mail).
The 21-year-old scored against us in the 4-2 win back in February, but his last appearance for the Owls came back in early March.
On Twitter, there was a mixed reaction to our reported interest in the player:
I like the look of this lad … can’t understand why he didn’t get more game time at sheff wed tho ?

According to the Mirror – don't know that much about him TBH

He's the lad who scored the first against us in 4-2 win over Sheff Wed a few months back!! He has a birthmark on his face. Looks a good player on a free. He was at the Nike Academy a few years back.

This will big me now. We have no idea what division we are in next season yet, this is a championship player, if we get promotion we need need premier players, not freebies from inferior clubs.

Promising player who is very versatile. Wednesday also have Hirst, another young player who isn't signing a new contract. I'd get both.

Hopefully this is true. Looked a good player when we played the away the other month.

Despite his lack of games in the Championship this season, Clare seems to be highly rated with Norwich City and Preston North End also pursuing the player.
We are said to be favourites to land the midfielder after he rejected a new contract to stay at Hillsborough. His current deal expires in the summer, and we are reportedly confident of beating off other clubs to his signature.
He did play regularly during the first half of the campaign on loan at Gillingham, but he has just five Championship appearances to his name. If we are promoted back to the Premier League, it’s difficult to see him getting much game time. One for the future, it seems.
