Aston Villa fans will reasonably decent long memories will remember the name Lovre Kalinic and yesterday evening the internet was plastered with stories linking him with us once again.
Sky Sports were one of many to link us once again with a move for the now 28-year-old goalkeeper. He plys his trade currently with Belgian side Gent and the former Hajduk Split stopper has now gained 14 caps for his country, Croatia, and he was in the squad that reached the 2018 World Cup finals out in Russia.
I had completely missed this but he was also apparently between the sticks back in the November international break as England took a 2-1 revenge score over the Croats in the Nations League competition.
Sky’s report says we were in for him last summer but failure to secure promotion brought an end to our interest – I don’t remember him from last summer, he was a widely reported target (with little concrete evidence) about three odd years back to my memory, and was one of Remi Garde’s picks before the Tom Fox led Board shafted him and failed to sign a single player to strengthen us despite the promises on his arrival.
If at first you don’t succeed and all that…
#avfc want to sign Lovre Kalinic from Gent. Yes, the man they missed out on THREE years ago. Good progress has been made. Expect this to happen.
