With former Aston Villa player (can we call him that?) Stephen Ireland taking the bizarre decision to absolutely slam former manager Gerard Houllier in a recent interview, it certainly caused a stir amongst Villa fans on social media.
Having savaged the Frenchman as being ‘a really horrendous manager’ as he reflected on his pointless spell at the club, it wasn’t the only barb he sent in Houllier’s direction whilst he seemed to remain completely oblivious to his own failings and his own attitude during his playing days.
There was a huge dose of irony in his words given his own career and various flashpoints, whether that be ‘Granny Gate’ or his broadside at Manchester City following his switch to us as he predicted the future.
“I think Aston Villa got a really good deal. I guess James Milner must think the grass is greener on the other side. He’s going to get a shock soon because it’s definitely not that way. I’ve really landed on my feet here. I think it’s a family club and one that will get the best out of me. I am actually shocked at how good it is. I’ve settled in so well, so fast. Even the young lads are so polite. I’m actually quite shocked with that.”
“On reflection I should have pulled the plug on Villa."

I can only presume he changed his mind as soon as he was asked to ‘work harder’ by Houllier.
In any event, his time with us did coincide with a less than memorable period of years at the club and fans weren’t slow in coming forward to give their thoughts on his subtle attempt to rewrite history and blame everyone else.
No one wanted him anyway would rather have just had the money or kept Milner #AVFC

A wasted talent.

I never realised he put the plug in!

Why someone who pretended his gran had died to get out of playing for his country thinks anyone has any interest in his opinion beggars belief. In his shoes I'd keep my head down and count my unearned cash.
