Former Aston Villa Academy graduate Gary Cahill has long been linked with a return to Villa Park – especially when his future at Chelsea was known to be coming to an end – and those rumours just won’t go away.
In January it was all about a potential loan move but that never came off, and some like the Sun remain adamant that we will be trying to reunite Cahill with both the club and John Terry this summer, but I just can’t see it myself given everything head coach Dean Smith has said about transfer, along with Christian Purslow.
The 33-year-old former England man would certainly provide experience to what we expect to be a younger crop of players, but I really can’t see it. Especially as the Sun then go on to link another former Chelsea and Brentford player as another presumed target for us – 26-year-old, now free agent, Josh McEachran.
As for Cahill, plenty see sense in a short deal if the number stack up though, although others certainly didn’t.
Definitely take Cahill if his wages aren't crazy. Don't see us getting Snoddy back. We need a LB too.

I pray that we go for Debuchy, Younes Belhanda, James Milner, Gary Cahill and Hiroshi Kiyotake.
Not sure Twitter has heard those players mentioned with Villa before, but my God they'd be terrific signings!

If we are trying to sign the likes of Cahill & Milner, not saying we will, then I don’t see it as a bad thing. Yes I know Smith has said he wants a more youthful squad etc but the experience of players like that could prove vital in the upcoming season #AVFC

Will he fit system Dean system of quick mobile comfortable on the ball centre halves I don't think so

Sorry but nonsense. Cahill wouldn't be a starter for any PL team. Hardly played in 3 seasons – not suited to todays 'play from back' game. Squad player if accepts lower wages but wont start. There's young & talented players who can make the step up out there #avfc https://t.co/d5aG8oigxZ

It's called free. We wouldn't buy players like that but experience hes worth it.
