Aston Villa fans seemed largely split on the relative merits of former player Jordan Amavi, but he was undoubtedly held back during his time at the club owing to his lengthy injury.
Having arrived at B6 from Nice for a reported £7.7million back in the summer of 2015, he departed on a loan spell for Marseille in 2017 having only made 39 starting appearances and nine substitute showings.
Fans questioned him defensively but largely liked the look of him on the attack, and with his deal at Marseille turning permanent, the now 25-year-old has certainly improved his overall game and now boasts ten senior French caps to his name.
With Marseille now having Financial Fair Play issues of their own, the following Tweet garnered quite a few reactions across social media.
Marseille facing potentially humiliating scenario:
– Must sell before end of June (FFP)
– No big earners want out. Those open to it, K.Strootman, attracting 0 interest
– The 1 who might = Luiz Gustavo & Lyon want him – OM may have to sell to biggest rivals to get out of trouble.— Get French Football News (@GFFN) June 7, 2019
Amavi back to Aston Villa seemed a popular choice for many, and even Jack Grealish’s brother, Kevan, got in on the act calling for a return.
The obvious question is, would you?
Marseille certainly got the better end of the sale deal, should be now re-balance that in our favour?
Just imagine… Amavi overlapping El Ghazi on the left wing with Jacko & Tyrone as LCM & LCB ???????? Yes please ???? #AVFC
