As each game passes, our injury list seems to get bigger at the moment.
As we gear up for a must win match against Wigan, Paul Lambert’s selection dilemma gets easier as Ron Vlaar, Charles N’Zogbia, Gabby Agbonlahor, are now joined by Andreas Weimann, Nathan Baker in remaining doubtful for the game.
Weimann injured his calf against Chelsea, and Baker was substituted yesterday with a hamstring issue.
Speaking to the Official Site Lambert admitted he really didn’t expect any of them to make a return in time for Wigan:
‘I am not so sure. I don’t think there will be many of them coming back. The injury situation is not helping us at the minute, there are a lot, but you have just got to go with what you’ve got. Ron’s doing alright at the minute but has not played since Arsenal. He’s not trained with us, he’s still working on his rehab. Nathan has a hamstring problem, we don’t know how bad it is and Andreas has injured his calf. Gabby still has a problem with his hip and with Charles it’s his knee. They are still struggling a bit.’
Regardless of how you rate the summer signings and despite us all hoping for a bit of experience to help guide the young lads through, plenty of worries were expressed at the time about the depth of the squad when injuries and suspensions hit and sadly that has come to pass and it has certainly cost us.
You’d hope the January window will be good for us on both the depth and experience basis.
