Aston Villa welcomed back former manager Paul Lambert to Villa Park earlier today as we hosted Ipswich Town in our latest Championship clash.
Looking to get back to winning ways after recent poor form for head coach Dean Smith, a Tammy Abraham brace gave us all three points on the day. The on loan Chelsea man opened the scoring six minutes in, and just after the hour mark he converted from the penalty spot to double our advantage after John McGinn was fouled in the box.
The visitors did get one goal back with just under 15 minutes remaining in the tie, but we hung on to record our first home win since the end of November,
We move into tenth place in the second tier table with the win and are now four points off the Play-Off spots.
Ipswich did have more of the ball, but we should certainly take confidence from the 23 chances we fashioned, especially as we got 13 on target, and if we can shore up defence we all know we’ll be in a much better place moving forward again.
