Stephen Ireland has thanked the fans for selecting him as the Supporters’ Player of the Year and vowed to do all he can in our final games to put a smile on our faces.
Speaking to the Official Site Ireland said he was pleased to have finally won fans over and although he has improved on the pitch, he knows there has to be a lot more coming from him if he’s going to convince all the doubters.
Personally, like Bannan, if our forwards can work some sort of understanding on the types of balls they play and they start making the runs to match them, he’ll look a hell of a lot better overnight. Weimann’s shown how it’s done in terms of peeling off and looking for a through ball, more of the same please!
‘It means loads to me, at the start of the season my goal was to get an award and preferably this one. I felt like I worked hard, I am really happy I got this, I am really grateful that the fans took notice and it’s something I really appreciate.’
After struggling recently with both hip and hamstring issues, Ireland believes he can play a big part in the remaining games and repay the faith fans have shown in him:
‘I’ve been carrying a hip problem for three or four weeks now and was playing through it, last week I was suffering and had a bit of a sore hamstring. They said with two games coming so quickly it was best that I sit one of them out but I’m back now, I’m fit and ready to go.’
