Aston Villa took a fully deserved victory over Bristol City last weekend as we welcomed them to Villa Park on Saturday and stole a march over their own Play-Off aspirations for the campaign of 2018/19.
After a scoreless first half, our dominance on the day continued in the second period and we got our just rewards as Tammy Abraham scored from the penalty spot, before Conor Hourihane took his chance eleven minutes later to make it 2-0 in the 66th minute.
Bristol City did have the ball in the back of the net before seeing it ruled out and Famara Diedhiou did save some blushes with just over 15 minutes remaining in the tie, but they scored from their only registered shot on target, whereas we had 25 efforts overall and they can thank their keeper that more of our eleven shots on target didn’t nestle in the back of the net, as a higher scoreline wouldn’t have been unjustified.
It must be something in the water at Bristol though as Villa fans are very aware of the perception of Lee Johnson to former games against us, and it seems to be catching as their right back Jack Hunt took to social media in the aftermath of the game and for some reason, he felt they were unlucky and we only won owing to the referee.
Morning All. First time in career that I’ve gave away a penalty, and what can I say. For it to happen in that manner is really disappointing!! I understand everyone is human and people make mistakes but yesterday was one after another by the officials and we feel 1/2

Very hard done by. The linesman said I pulled CH down and the referee said I pushed him. I guess you win some and lose some but in a big game like that we just want a fair chance to see who would of come out on top without an officials mistake 2/2

Novel approach and the expected reaction to it left me with a smile on my face.
I tell you what before giving the officials any kind of stick look at your own performance could still be playing now and you wouldn't have got anywhere near @AElGhazi7 embarrassing to blame officials when you had your pants pulled down for 90 mins

Are you joking? You deserved nothing from the game and that’s what you got.

I guess the ref and linesman were also responsible for our 11 shots on target too #battered #utv pic.twitter.com/uLTrUJlYDy

Did u not play in the game lad . Your keeper kept u in it with some outstanding saves .. I think deep down you should be happy you only conceded 2 UTV

Do me a favour, the ref had a good game. Without your keeper making 7 point blank saves it could have been more. Deluded…

Right… We had 23 shots so we would come out on top anyday of the week even without official mistakes, without your keeper we would have won by 6 or 7
