Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce had booked up a double friendly on Saturday afternoon with half of the squad heading to Telford United and New Bucks Head, with the other half off to Kidderminster Harriers and Aggborough.

Our Telford lads picked up a 3-0 victory with Jonathan Kodjia helping himself to a brace before he set up Conor Hourihane to score our third. The Kidderminster lads played out a 1-1 draw with youth prospect Harvey Knibbs finding the back of the net.

With it being our first proper run outs of the year as we opened the game scheduled in pre-season, plenty of fans were pleased to welcome back actual football action and discussion given what has dominated the headlines so far this summer given the mess our Boardroom have gotten us into.

It wasn’t only fans who took to social media following the full-time whistles, a couple of players did as well to give their own thoughts at getting back on the pitch in semi-competitive action as they continued building their fitness for the 2018/19 challenge that awaits us – whether they face that challenge with us, or elsewhere, remains to be seen.

Next up for Villa is a trip to Walsall on Tuesday, then Burton Albion next Saturday. West Ham United as to German side Dynamo Dresden.
