It’s The Hope That Kills You, More Impressive Villa Still Have Nothing To Show For It – Match Stats

With two draws and two defeats since the fudge that was the Premier League restart, the fates are still smiling fondly on Aston Villa and we continue to be only one point from safety going into today’s clash with Liverpool at Anfield.

The only result not to go in our favour was Liverpool’s hammering by Manchester City in midweek, and everyone feared a reaction from that.

But it wasn’t the game most were expecting. We were lively, without being troublesome and largely without being troubled either, as chances for both sides were few and far between in the first half. We should’ve arguably had a penalty as well, but Douglas Luiz went down late and a little too theatrical for the referee’s liking.

Scoreless at the break.

It was a bright start to the second half as well, and we were clearly the side on top and looking more dangerous (for a change) but rather predictably after the drinks break, we momentarily switched off and Sadio Mane took full advantage to make it 1-0.

Liverpool were back in the game and coasting, and whilst the effort remained, it was largely without purpose or idea and then the hosts inevitably got a second.

Game over and it really is the hope that kills you.
