Jack’s Back & Villa Might Be As Well – Derby Get Lamparded – Match Stats

With the wheels coming off Aston Villa promotion push in the season of 2018/19, our recent form guide had three draws and two losses in the last five as we headed into today’s Championship tie with Derby County.

Having ended our run of successive defeats in the last one, we will be hoping to remain unbeaten at least, and Derby have also lost their last two matches – so with a boost given Jack Grealish was passed fit, fans were hopeful, if not confident.

Villa looked to have a point to prove, starting the brighter and Conor Hourihane gave us the advantage nine minutes into the game as he scored for the first time since December. Tammy Abraham made it 21 goals for the campaign as he deservedly doubled our lead in the 37th minute and at that point, Derby hadn’t had a single shot at goal, let alone on target.

Abraham then lined up Hourihane for his brace in the 44th minute and Grealish announced his return in some fashion, making it 4-0 in stoppage-time at the end of the half.

(Derby were still to have a shot). So was that our good, or bad, half?

Well, it was our better half. The last 45 saw us continue our dominance and we created further chances but couldn’t add to the scoreline. We lost Tommy Elphick to what looked like a bad injury but that was really the only disappointment.

4-0 and with results elsewhere, maybe game back on for the Play-Offs if we get ourselves back on a run?
