It was reported over the weekend that Aston Villa had secured a deal to bring in Bury youngster Jacob Bedeau ahead of the January transfer deadline on Tuesday.

Bury head coach Chris Brass confirmed the deal and the speculation as he spoke to the media ahead of their game on Saturday against Walsall.

The Bury Times quote Brass as saying that two bids earlier last week had been rejected by the League One side for their 17 year old defender, but Villa had ahead of the weekend now met their expectations when it came to a fee.

Bedeau arrived at Gigg Lane from Leyton Orient on a free transfer over the summer and so far this season he has seven senior appearances to his name, so he’s very much one for the summer and I pressume if the medical hadn’t took place over the weekend it will be set for some point later today and then the deal will be finalised as there are some bits still to work out – namely it seems Bury want him back for the rest of the campaign.

‘They have got to where our expectations are and they have done their homework, as you would expect from a club of their magnitude. The deal has not just happened overnight. It has been ongoing for a while. You have to make sure it is in the best interests of Jacob and the football club. He is going to be a fantastic player.’

Brass added.

‘There are little bits I want to work on. I want to bring him back for the rest of the season, that’s what I want to work on in the next couple of days.’

Bedeau’s appearances this year from what I can tell are six starts and one substitute appearance, so given we’ll be bringing him into the Under 23’s it makes sense to me to leave him with Bury as ten more games for them in League One is going to be worth more than Under 23 fixtures then we can have a much closer look at him over the summer.

The Birmingham Mail say our first bid was £750,000 and that the player had interest in him from Manchester United, Liverpool and Manchester City – they state at one game the young centre half had 27 scouts watching over him.
