Martin O’Neill has allowed Lee Hendrie to stay on loan at Stoke for a third month, surely that spells the end for the midfielder at Villa? After all, it isn’t as if we’ve got that many choices to play with due to our small squad is it?

Stoke boss Tony Pulis told The Sentinel ‘We’ve got him for a third month and I can’t thank Martin O’Neill enough for his help. He’s allowed us to have Lee for that extra month and that’s got to be fantastic news, for both the player and Stoke City. The news will give everyone a lift because Lee has been special since joining us.’

Meanwhile O’Neill has said ‘We will be striving in January to try to improve the team. We do need to strengthen if you are going to compete. The chairman wants to do that. I’m not so sure at the moment if we are in the market for the very best players in the world. That’s a different issue. But are we going to try to improve the team? Absolutely.’

And on former loanee and Newcastle winger he said: ‘And yes, James Milner has been a target of mine in the past and I would like to see him at Villa Park.’

Milner was linked to a swap deal with Steven Davis recently but I can’t see that, we want to build a squad not continually weaken it.
