James Milner has basically issued a ‘give me a shirt and I will play’ statement, which kind of sums up the Aston Villa man really, right?

He is a ‘proper’ footballer!

With Wayne Bridge ‘unavailable’ Milner knows that this is a setback but knows that it is now time for us to ‘move on’ and if that means he plays at left back, so be it: ‘I’ve had 15 minutes experience at left-back but that was for England. If I’m asked to play there I’ll do the best job I can.

‘I obviously think my best positions are more attacking – centre midfield or wide either side – but if I am asked to play there I will do the job to the best of my ability and hopefully that is good enough.

‘I am just happy to be with the England squad wherever that means I am playing.
