January Is A Long Way Off For Villa – But I Can’t Be The Only One Wondering About Brentford

With the appointment on Wednesday evening of Head Coach Dean Smith, alongside Assistant John Terry and Sporting Director Jesus Garcia Pitarch, I can’t be the only one wondering about potential moves in the January window.

Undoubtedly we need to sell some players to ease our burdens and obligations under Financial Fair Play as those issues may not ultimately be as bad as some areas of the media have made out as they throw around invented best guess figures and include the words ‘fine’ and ‘points deductions’ leading to fans to read into what they didn’t actually claim – because they don’t know enough to claim it.

But we also absolutely need to help rebalance the squad given our illogical August window that left us with one natural centre-half on our books and loanee Axel Tuanzebe, who rarely played there because of Mile Jedinak.

Previous years have seen us overload in numerous positions as well, so there’s plenty to be done.

But Brentford is now an easy shout for ideas.

Daniel Bentley – goalkeeper.
Chris Mepham – centre-half.
Ezri Konsa – centre-half.
Ollie Watkins – striker.

That’s four from me.

I know others will say Neal Maupay, namely because I saw this.

I disagree, Hogan’s record is better in roughly similar games and we need to get our money’s worth from the 26-year-old. Watkins has a better record for me as well based on levels played at. The others should speak for themselves.

I know folks will have opinions, so over to you.
