Our previous January Transfer rumours thread got 219 and 225 comments and are now pretty much full January Transfer Window Talk and January Transfer Window Talk 2 so I’ve set up this new sticky to continue driving ourselves mad with links and gossip that we all know will probably come to nothing with total surprises arriving instead!

So far we have, amongst others, been linked to:

Goalkeeper: Matt Murray

Defenders: Richard Stearman, Greg Halford – Colchester, Phil Bardsley of Man Utd, Matthew Upson from Small Heath, Curtis Davies from West Bromwich Albion, Portsmouth right-back Andy Griffin, Oldham right-back Neil Eardley. Abel Xavier from Middlesbrough,

Midfielders: Joey Barton of Man City, James Milner of Newcastle, Shaun Wright-Phillips from Chelski, Zoltan Gera from WBA, Reading’s Kevin Doyle. Ashley Young from Watford. Barry Ferguson from Rangers, Reo Coker from West Ham.

Strikers: David Nugent from Preston, Jermain Defoe and/or Robbie Keane from Spurs, Darren Bent from Charlton, Sean Maloney from Celtic, Freddy Eastwood from Southend, Kevin Davies from Bolton, Mark Viduka from Boro), Alan Smith from Manchester United, Craig Bellamy (old link from rumour thread), Peter Crouch from Liverpool, James Beattie from Everton, Marlon Harewood from West Ham.

And the list goes on…

  • We are like a load of fish wives gossip gossip and more gossip. I hope we will be soon discussing our new signing.

  • Aston Villa are moving for FC Basle youngster Zdravko Kuzmanovic.
The young Swiss midfielder was set to join Palermo yesterday for £1.5 million, only for Basle to bump up their asking price to £2 million.

Palermo have pulled out of negotiations, with Villa being blamed for driving up Kuzmanovic’s price-tag.

  • It really is a shame – trying to be patient is one thing but part of me just wants us to go out there slam down £9 -10m each for Young and SWP (maybe some staggered deal £7m then another £2-3m if we qualify for Champions League in next 3 years)….and while we are at it surprise us with a Barton or Carew!! Well I can dream!! I just really think it will make the difference. Our team just seems a bit tired, devoid of ideas and lacking the killer instinct at the moment. Add the return to Luke Moore and the option of the successful 4-3-3 formation we used at the start of the season qualification for Europe should happen. On the way out I know we need a big squad but providing we get the 4 players I mentioned (or more!!) we could afford to let Lee Hendrie go for £1m and Baros for £6m. Up the Villa!

  • Gotta say if anyone thinks European qualification for a team in total transition is good then they are MAD, mad as Alex Ferguson eyeing up a Brazilian midfielder so BAD they named him twice. We need to finish in the top half brimming with confidence whilst in the summer the Tavern/Training Facility/Train Station re-vamp would get us noticed and send out good messages to supporters and investors alike…then O’Neill could start talking to new players who see Villa going places on and off the pitch…patience IS a virtue.

  • wouldn’t mind Joey Barton I already signed him on Championship manager and another player I wouldn’t mind is a Chillie Striker called Pinilla

  • Newsnow is linking us to all sorts now, Joey Barton, Burke from Rangers, can’t take much more of this, gonna ignore everything now and get on with some work!!!!

  • Deals are normally done in the last few days. Im sure we will bring in that polish striker, maybe a centre half from leicester. Not to convinced about anyone exciting though.

  • Just a general wondering here……due to our need for a right-winger, a certain Mr. Beckham is sitting on the bench waiting for the end of the season. I know it is HIGHLY unlikely but would ANYONE fancy seeing him doing a job for us. Personally I dont but what if Young, SWP etc. did not join and 5mins before the deadline MO’N went for him…..? What would everyone think. I think that this position is a priority so that we can allow Gabby to play up front. We have a reasonable amount of width on the left but we need a Solano or Milner-type out right. Could he do a short-term job???

  • Please not Bellamy. If they need to go to Liverpool for a striker again then a £13m cheque for Peter Crouch wouldn’t go amiss.

  • Zdravko Kuzmanovic is 19 and Celtic were only prepared to offer about £1million apparently and wouldn’t put him in the first team asap, so the deal fell through. Apparently.

  • if anyone wants a laugh go on the newsnow sight and click on the link that says frank lampard at villa for medical.

  • koolbil – are you saying then that MON is mad? See his statement on avfc website today at http://www.avfc.premiumtv.co.uk. He’s set his sights on qualifying for Europe next year.
baros10 – forget Crouch he’s going to Newcastle in exchange for Owen.
