Our previous January Transfer rumours thread got 219 and 225 comments and are now pretty much full January Transfer Window Talk , January Transfer Window Talk 2 and
January Transfer Window Talk 3
so I’ve set up this new sticky to continue driving ourselves mad with links and gossip that we all know will probably come to nothing with total surprises arriving instead!

So far we have, amongst others, been linked to:

Goalkeeper: Matt Murray

Defenders: Richard Stearman, Greg Halford – Colchester, Phil Bardsley of Man Utd, Matthew Upson from Small Heath, Curtis Davies from West Bromwich Albion, Portsmouth right-back Andy Griffin, Oldham right-back Neil Eardley. Abel Xavier from Middlesbrough,

Midfielders: Joey Barton of Man City, James Milner of Newcastle, Shaun Wright-Phillips from Chelski, Zoltan Gera from WBA, Reading’s Kevin Doyle. Ashley Young from Watford. Barry Ferguson from Rangers, Reo Coker from West Ham.

Strikers: David Nugent from Preston, Jermain Defoe and/or Robbie Keane from Spurs, Darren Bent from Charlton, Sean Maloney from Celtic, Freddy Eastwood from Southend, Kevin Davies from Bolton, Mark Viduka from Boro), Alan Smith from Manchester United, Craig Bellamy (old link from rumour thread), Peter Crouch from Liverpool, James Beattie from Everton, Marlon Harewood from West Ham.

  • According to Setanta theres more reports of Petrov begging to go back to Celtic. The little Weasel.Celtic will only offer 3m.

  • Would be good to get a statement from the club really on the Petrov situation, is it unfounded talk or is there some truth in it?

  • On skysports website it says that carew is in taks with bremen over a move to germany. the petrov story just might be papers printing the same old stuff, but then a gain there’ s no smoke without fire

  • I agree that its time some sort of official denial (I hope) or confirmation of these recurring Petrov rumours. I find it a bit unsettling that the club hasn’t moved to quash them already, so perhaps there is some truth in them.

  • I dont see why the club should lose a vast amount of money on this.He should compensate us.How much is he on a week?

  • I hope the Petrov story isn’t true. He hasn’t set Villa Park alight yet but he deserves longer, and so do we.

  • As regards Petrov – we may come to a compromise, it will depend on how much money we’ve paid them, what wages he wants back at Celtic etc.. Best not to keep unhappy players. Either way I don’t think Celtic will want to shaft us.

  • we have a wierd history with eastern european players…. bosko, savo, baros and now possibly petrov. what’s the story? and is this why the polish-striker rumour stopped?

  • I think Celtic would love nothing more than to shaft us over this.Petrov insults the level of Scottish fitba throws a strop, gets a tasty signing on fee,and a handsome wage.Celtic get a great price.A couple of months later he goes straight back.Petrov makes a profit,Celtic make a profit. We have our pockits picked again.I think theres a feeling at Celtic that were poaching there players,Maloney for example and this would be one in the eye for us.If he goes back I hope they offer him a pitance.

  • I think we are all forgetting that under EUFA regulations a player can’t return to a club within 12 months of leaving them. So, even if Petrov wants to return to Glasgow he can’t got to Celtic..and as an ex-Celtic player I can’t see Rangers being interested in him. So basically, he’s screwed!!

  • Aston Villa manager Martin O’Neill is said to be preparing a £1m bid for Hearts midfielder Paul Hartley (Scottish Sun)

  • has there been any mention of what time the AY deal is likely to be completed. usualy they say something on SSN when the player signs (hopefully)

  • jonah…petrov can return to celtic or any other club for that matter but under the regulations he cannot play for more than two teams in the season so he will be keeping the bench warm until the new season starts.

  • Football is set up with the players having all the power. Petrov is obviously suffering from the pace of the Premiership and playing in a struggling side (of late). He was a big fish up there. We should support him at the moment, before we hear what’s going on.

  • Looks like we might be siging “The Hulk” then, aka Carew – anyone know what he’s like? Heard he’s gone off the boil recently, has he been playing for Lyon?
