Jlloyd Samuel Admits Villa Defeat

Looks like Jlloyd Samuel has come to the inevitable conclusion that he will have to leave Villa Park this summer if he wants to find first team football.

The Villa left-back, an ever present in the Villa team only a few seasons ago, is out of contract in the summer and has rarely featured even on the bench since the arrival of Martin O’Neill.

Jlloyd says he could have gone in January but he wanted to fight for his place at Villa, now with no sign of getting a sniff of first team football, it seems he accepts he’ll have to depart.

He said: ‘There was a lot of interest in January and I could have gone places but I didn’t choose to do that because I wanted to see what would happen at Villa – nothing has changed though so I have to change things myself. I have been here 10 years and out of those I would say I have had eight good years, but recently I have not had as good a time as I would have liked.’

‘If my career is to get back on track I have to leave here and that is what I intend to do. I have made the odd appearance and been sub but l don’t believe I have had many chances this year. The manager has pretty much stayed with the same team for a while and I don’t want to be playing reserve-team football because I feel I am definitely better than that.’

Adding: ‘This season has been a write-off. I have kept my head down, I have not complained and have done what I have been told but it has come to that time when enough is enough. I have been frustrated for a while and you get low because you feel like you don’t know where you are going. But I believe I can do a job in the Premiership and hopefully something will come up.’

Jlloyd has been linked with Bolton Wanderers and Charlton and I’m sure other clubs will also have an interest, I still say he is a decent player and would be better in our squad, especially as we surely need back up for Wilfred Bouma? Jlloyd is only 25 and was on the fringe of the England team a few seasons ago having been an England U21 regular before that.

Another of the bright youth prospects who haven’t quite cut it or not had the chance at Villa? Certainly been a good few over the last few years haven’t there? Jamie Ward, Cooke, Stefan Moore, Peter Whittingham, who else?! Ho hum.
