Villa left-back Jlloyd Samuel says he will give life at Villa 100% despite the fact he has conceded he will probably have to move on in the summer, which he can do on a free as his contract runs out at the end of this season, in order to get first team football.

The 26-year-old (well, 25 until Thursday but who is quibbling?) told his own icons site:

‘There are eight games left and I am still a Villa player, so I’ll always give 100 per cent – even though it looks as though this could be my last season at the club. I have had a great career here and, as I say, lots of good memories but it could be time for a new chapter to begin. I haven’t complained all season, I’ve been really professional and I’ve been waiting for my chance to come, but it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen. So I have to take matters into my own hands and I want a fresh start.’

‘Although it has been frustrating, I am still training 100 per cent and giving my all here, as I am still an Aston Villa player. But in my opinion the time has come to let the club know how I’m feeling, I think it’s only right to do so. Lot of things have changed since I joined the club – I have seen lots of managers come and go and I have made lots of friends here; some have moved on but there’s a few left. However it feels like my time at the club is coming to an end as well.’

‘The last eighteen months have seen a few injuries and I have been in and out of the side, which has made it my worst season ever. I know I had a bad injury, but I am fit now and I feel like I have been forgotten. It will be quite weird if I were to leave, but sometimes you need a new challenge and I’m sure if I go I will respond well and pick up where I left off.’
