Aston Villa left-back Jlloyd Samuel has said he isn’t interested in a loan deal and wants to fight for his place in the team.

Samuel has recovered from a string of injuries and is now hoping to prove his worth, although he has yet to make the bench with Gareth Barry being preferred at left back ahead of Dutch international Wilfred Bouma.

Samuel, who was an ever present just a couple of seasons ago and thought to be on the verge of England, has suffered from injuries and a subsequent drop in form over the last season or so and his contract runs out in the summer meaning he is free to talk to other clubs from tomorrow onward.

Samuel said: ‘I’m not going to consider going out on loan to get games. I feel I can get myself fit here by working hard and getting back into the team.’
