Joey Barton’s agent says the Manchester City midfielder is happy at Eastlands despite links to Aston Villa, Newcastle and Middlesbrough.

The 24-year-old midfielders Agent Willie McKay (that reminds me, must dig out my Bob Dyland cd and play Blind Willie McTell, what a song!) told skysports:

‘Joey is happy at Manchester City. I would not be surprised if other clubs are looking at Joey as he has been playing extremely well this season. But Joey is happy with life at Man City and he is only concentrating on his football.’

‘He is ambitious and he would love to break into the England set-up.’

Not an out and out no is it, then again, none of the clubs linked are really a major step forward from City, so until Villa get back up there, why would players make a sideward move anyway?

  • Seems a remarkable transformation. Does he really believe he’ll get in to the England set up staying at City?

  • Can’t see him joining us, and not the type of player we need in midfield right now, especially after purchasing Petrov in August.

  • If he does come, expect a sparkling story in the near future about the time Lee Hendrie asked him to wash his Ferari while the two sat together enjying cigars in the players’ lounge.

  • It shows how far we’ve fallen though, and how far we have to travel to get back, when a player like Joey Barton wouldn’t be wildly enthusiastic about a move to B6. We’re going to have to take this rebulding process one step at a time. The bigger names in the U.K. and Europe aren’t going to look at us twice just yet. We need to rebuild our profile within the game, and thats going to take time.

  • Glensider – the best quote yet. Common sense should prevail. Patience for players to come and hopefully bring some fans with them. UTV.

  • I think he would have been a good signing, its not too late for him to grow up. I remember Gerrard had a bit of a similar reputation when he first came to light, but he has matured a hell of a lot.

  • Glensider, sorry chap I’ve looked again and again but still cant spot where it says joey barton isn’t wildly enthusiastic about a move to B6, all I see is a players agent making a comment, most players will state how happy they are at their club, who wants to risk alienating their teammates and fans? but when a concrete offer comes in things change, we all know these people can be saying no its never going to happen while at the same time signing a contract elsewhere, nature of the beast, not that I am cynical but in the world of football I’ll believe it when the ink is dry.
