John Carew has grown considerably since joining Aston Villa.

The 27-year-old striker said that Martin O’Neill ‘makes you feel 10 feet tall!’

He told the official site:

‘I can always get better and improve. I feel I do that every year. Of course I am 27 and not a teenager, but I still think I have more to offer. I have to work harder now, but I will. I believe Martin O’Neill can bring even more out of me. Before I think about my long-term future and what I can achieve at Villa, I will try to do the best I can on the field. But this could be the last big move I make in my career, so I want to make the most of it.’

Adding: ‘Anywhere you go, it is very important that the manager wants you. I think Martin has been following my career for a long time and he is a good guy, a great man. I am tall, but Martin makes you feel 10 feet tall. I am happy he is my manager. I want to make Villa climb the table again. I just hope I can bring something good to the club with my strength. The club want to be among the very best in a few years, so I would be happy to take them there.’

  • Come on Mr Fear, too many positive stories being reported out of VP… we need something to bring us Villa fans back to normal

  • Getting the likes of carew and young will help bring other quality players in, optimism is a strange feeling.

  • Things are certainly on the up, I hope Carew live up to his size and reputation, he looks the part, I hope he opens his account against the barcodes.

  • Carew may think he is 10 feet tall but the important thing is that he should hope he gets rated 10 performences for Villa

  • John Careeeeeew (hey) he’s massive. John Careeeew (hey) he’s massive. Come on its one of my better ones – to the tune of doctor who (the tardis).

  • How’s about:
Chim chimeney, chim chimeney, chim, chim, cheroo who needs Wayne Rooney when we’ve got Carew!

    A Mary Poppins classic!!!

  • The best one ive heard so far is to the theme of vindaloo “John Carew, John Carew, John Carew, John Carew nah nah”

  • John carew isn’t really a top quality player. The fact lyon practically pushed him all the way to villa speaks volumes. Hope proved wrong but suppose villa will never really attract the best players in europe.

  • But how many of us remember when we signed Peter Withe. I can remember everyone being disappointed with the ‘Forest has-been’. So you never know what may transpire…

  • Larsson you complete clown, there are lots of Celtic fans on your site that speak sense, obviously you aint one of them.

  • Pike, I remember Withe coming to the Villa and I was more excited than the Carew signing… you have to remember that there was a real downer after the Deehan/Gray/Little years. If Carew is as good as Peter Withe then I’ll be more than excited!

  • young will be the person to make youth come to us as they know we will pay money and play and carew will help bring in experianced players from all over europe as hes played almost everywhere and has links 😀 good times great to be a villa fan!

  • I too was delighted when Peter Withe arrived here from Newcastle, and I’m getting the same vibes (man!) about Carew. In my estimation he’s the type of striker that we’ve been sadly lacking for some time. Yes, he may well take time to settle, but like Stan Petrov (Mr LARSSON*7*CFC), he saw the opportunity to move on to better things, and when MON comes a’ calling, you dont think twice.

  • Carew will be great here,it may take a little time but weve waited a long time for a good target man.Dublin was the last i think. With gabby, luke and young around him he’s bound to get goals.
