Sometimes I do wonder why players don’t do their talking ON the pitch… or at least do their ‘thing’ on the pitch first and then talk the game up?
Ahem, John Carew has told The Express & Star that he is fit again and won’t be giving up his place without a fight.
I might have missed it, although from the texts I got during the game, along with the comments from those around me, I don’t think I did? Where was the fight on Saturday against Chelsea?
The big man, who is free to leave at the end of this season, told the paper he felt good at the weekend and feels his form is returning following knee problems.
‘I`m hoping to be a bigger part of the team again now. I just need to get my physical state back to 100 per cent again.’
I’m never sure the 31-year-old is ever really ‘in it’ these days but hey, it would he fantastic if the old aggressive never say die performances (yes, I know, they can be a bit rare) return, goodness knows we do need the goals and competition for places up front – at least until Gerard Houllier can bring in re-enforcements – is crucial.
Big John also says he thinks the team are now playing better and they are looking at the tactical side explaining ‘”We`re doing more on possession play, on defensive organisation, offensive organisation. We are doing more of that and that`s really good. I think that will show in results over the whole season, as we know more what to do and where to be.’
So…. will we see a fired up John Carew and will he start banging in the goals? Would be great if he did, he’s always been a nearly man for me though, especially against the bigger teams.
If he puts in half as much grunt work as Heskey has this season, we’ll be laughing though.
