Martin O’Neill has been talking to the press about John Carew, who does seem to have re-found some form and also renewed favour with the manager who benched the striker following the Ajax incident.

MON said of that, ‘They are allowed to enjoy themselves. But wandering up and down the street at 2am in the morning on a day in which you may be playing. . .’

However following his recent form and especially goal v Manchester United MON also said in the Telegraph that JC can be ‘anything he wants to be’ if he can get some consitency.

‘I tell him if he wants to be feared as a forward who will cause you problems, you have got to be consistently excellent. He is a talented player, not just a lump of a lad. Everything is up to him. He has accepted that challenge and wants to do something about it.’

Which neatly leads us to the last poll, suggested by astongolfer, asking:

With rumours doing the rounds on John Carew, what do you think?

Seems he is rather popular amongst the Villa faithful as 84% voted JC as a ‘MUST keep’.

6% voted that Villa should ‘try’ to keep him and another 6% were easy either way.

That means only 3% didn’t care and 1% would be fine with him being sold at the right price.

Looks like it is JC day as he has been talking in the Birmingham Mail saying that he is really enjoying himself and wants to beat his personal best of 15 or 16 goals in a season.

He also says he just wants to see Villa winning no matter who scores adding ahead of the massive game v Everton tomorrow, ‘We just have to continue believing in what we are doing.’

And on our quest for European football he says how important European football is for the development of players (which makes the Moscow thing even more baffling but hey ho, it has happened now so guess we’ve got to move on!)

‘I have played in Europe for almost all of my career and it is just an amazing feeling. I want these young lads here at Aston Villa to keep experiencing those feelings that we had this season. People like Gabby Agbonlahor and Ashley Young are already exciting talents, great talents, and it will help to take them on to the next level.’
