On loan Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone has said he’s ‘really enjoyed’ his time at Aston Villa in the second half of this season.

Having moved to B6 back in early January on a half season loan spell, Johnstone went on to make 22 appearances for us in 2016/17 and after a difficult start as he bedded in, there were far more impressive displays as the year drew to a close.

With manager Steve Bruce also confirming he would be speaking to opposite numbers at Old Trafford about a deal for next season, we have to ensure that it’s a permanent deal to be honest.

With eight clean sheets kept this side of the season, the 24 year old told the Official Site that he’d ‘really enjoyed’ his time at the club and he was certainly saying all the right things if a return over the summer was on the cards.

‘I`ve really enjoyed it. It`s a massive club where you`re playing in front of 35,000 fans in every home game and taking huge amounts of supporters to away matches. It has been a bit frustrating at times – when I first arrived it was difficult because we weren`t getting the results but there were also a lot of new players coming into the team and it took a bit of time to settle.’

Johnstone went on to say.

‘But I worked hard away from the games on the training pitch doing extra work, extra gym sessions and yoga too. Then things started to turn around and get results so I`ve really enjoyed it. Everyone says it – but Villa truly is a massive club.’

Bruce has previously said about the stopper and the future – with a meeting with Jose Mourinho set this week.

‘I have had a conversation with Jose on the telephone and I will now be going to see him. We hope there is good news there.’
