Aston Villa have certainly announced their return to the Premier League in some fashion given an estimated £80million outlay so far.

And at least for now we are the Premier League’s top spenders so far this summer and we all know our transfer business isn’t done yet, but how many of the players named on the rumour mill that will come true, is certainly open to debate.

With such spending though there have been plenty of lazy links to ‘doing a Fulham’ as they wasted £100million in the 2018/19 campaign and saw themselves rewarded with an instant return to the Championship, but credit where it’s due, Daily Telegraph journalist Matt Law actually has the right take things and he’s pointed out himself, we’re doing the exact opposite of what the Cottagers did at this time last year.

Fresh faces as required, but ensuring we keep the core of the group that won promotion together as best we can for the benefits of continuity and understanding. Obviously, we won’t be able to do that in some cases and Tammy Abraham is probably the best point there but whilst we’re spending a lot, it’s focused with a plan in mind.

It’ll be a difficult year ahead and at points we’ll struggle, but there’s every reason to be confident.
