Villa have announced our first signing of the summer for the first team, Bulgarian Aleksandar Tonev.
The 23 year old attacking midfielder has today completed his medical and signed terms with us, after moving from Lech Poznan.
Speaking to the Official Site the player said of his move:
‘I’m really happy to be part of Aston Villa and proud to pull the shirt on. Aston Villa is a big club and the manager and club have a belief in young players and in the team ethic. I am hungry for success and I want to show everybody what I can really do.’
Stiliyan Petrov knows him well having teamed up alongside him for Bulgaria in the past and he said of our new signing, after acting as translator for the press:
I played alongside Aleks, so I know a little bit about what kind of player he is. The main thing is that the manager likes him as well and the way he plays. I think Villa fans have one exciting player on their hands.’
Petrov says that Tonev doesn’t really have a dominant foot, but he’s quick, pacey and once he finds his feet at the club and in the league he thinks we have a player that can make things happen on a football pitch.
