I am sure most Villa fans are still waiting to really understand just who our new CEO, Christian Purslow, is and what he can bring to Aston Villa.

I thought I’d ask the knowledgeable Merlin from Vital Chelsea for his thoughts on Purslow’s time at Stamford Bridge.

Merlin said:

“From October 2014 until February 2017, Christian Purslow was occupying the position of Head of Global Commercial activities.

During his time at Stamford Bridge, Purslow oversaw a range of commercial changes, which included deals with foreign brands such as Yokohama, Wipro and Carabao. But, his biggest coup was being involved in the kit brand switch from Adidas to Nike, a deal which was, reportedly, worth £900 million, an astronomical amount.

However, on a personal basis, I have to admit whilst, financially, the deal was great, I always preferred the Adidas shirts, far more comfortable to wear.

But, perhaps the biggest compliment I can pay Christian Purslow is that he went about his duties, at Stamford Bridge in a manner in which he achieved success in his position, brought financial rewards to the club and doing it in a way that always seemed to avoid the bright lights of the haranguing media, who just love to have a pop at our club.”

I then asked him why Purslow left, Merlin replied: “Not sure why he left but our chairman, Bruce Buck, gave him a glowing report as opposed to the standard drivel fed to us when a manager is axed.”

I have also interviewed a Liverpool fan who also offers up some positivity on the CEO. I’ll publish that separately.

I’m sure we’ll all here from Christian soon, he’ll be finding his feet and seeing the job at hand right now.
