Klaas-Jan Nistelrooy?

We’re winding up to that magical time of year and I’m not talking about Christmas.

The January transfer window is almost upon us and as usual, several names are being banded around, with Villa being linked to several of them.

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is one of these names. As we have recently played Ajax (who weren’t a bad side at all) I thought I’d take a closer look at him in a wider context.

Now, as we’ve all seen, a certain Brazilian goalkeeper who excelled in the Dutch Eredivisie has come to England and flapped. A lot. And as an ex-student, I know from many late nights watching Channel 5’s Dutch football coverage, that the standard is poor as a rule.

But what of Huntelaar? He looked sharp against us on that great night and his name has been linked to the very best in the country for a while now. Should we be the ones to take a chance on him? From what I’ve seen he’d make a good target man and he’s also got a good eye for goal. However, is he still living off that wonder kid tag?

At 25 years old he’s no kid, although not at his peak. 75 goals in 90 appearances for Ajax is a phenomenal record, albeit against very average opposition. Another triple named Dutchman did rather well in the
Premiership. Remember him? He came to the premiership at 25 years old and the rest is history.

I for one (depending on price) would like to see Huntelaar at B6. It would be extra competition for Carew and may be the goal poacher that we’ve been lacking for the past few seasons. Could he be our Van Nistelrooy?
