Does mediocrity rule at Villa Park?

Apparently it does.

Paul Lambert last season equalled our worst ever home record (1966/67 the year we were relegated) with 9 home defeats.

This season he`s been able to, whilst they talk about progress and visions, to BEAT the worst ever record. Yup, we now have 10 home defeats and yet the man remains in the job.

We had injuries yesterday before someone uses that as an excuse. The three main missing ones played v Man Utd and Stoke though, what were those scores again?

And a few more records broken by this manager:

Most goals let in over a season in premiership era last season

Biggest defeat in our history (8-0 vs Chelsea)

First top flight team to be beaten by bottom tier side over two legs in a cup semi-final (last season)

Villa aren`t building anything here, we aren`t at a cross roads or moving forward, we are in decline. We got 41 points last season, we have 34 this season, so even if we pick up a few more points, we`ll not be seeing massive progress, whether the league position is slightly better or not. If we`d seen a jump of 10 or more points and if they had managed to take the Cup`s seriously instead of the embarrassing drivel Lambert came out with which even other managers said was wrong (and Big Ron recently) then maybe we would see progress but sorry, there is none.

It hurts to see when someone like Big Ron says Villa have become ‘insignificant` but can you argue with him? I can`t, he`s right. It`s awful, it`s gut wrenching, it`s sad.

My passion has always been writing about Villa, done it for 14 odd years, run a football network, it`s what I do. But this season I`ve written less and less because I`m bored, I`m tired of moaning and much like when I go to games, I`m almost in shrug mode or… what`s the point. Looks like an awful lot of fans are there as well the way the attendances are and the amount of comments I`m seeing and hearing about those not renewing. I know at least five people personally not renewing and a fair few undecided, one has been a season ticket holder for decades. Then there are loads saying it around facebook, forums etc and it isn`t being fickle, it is the fact money is tight for people and fans are fed up to death of paying through their teeth and coming out angry.

It was interesting yesterday listening to the phone in on the way home from the game where one fan said looking at the Villa fans walking to Villa Park looks like people going to the gallows. Must admit, I agree. You look at the faces during the games, people are bored, frustrated or furiously angry… the anger though seems to be being replaced for many with resignation. Look how fans left in their droves 15-20 mins before the end. Fans don`t do that for no reason. They did the same yesterday. Just utter disgust at where we are at and how we can`t even compete v a bottom three team.

I don`t blame and won`t point fingers (not individually, or very not often!) at the players. Some are just not good enough, they try, but they aren`t the grade. That is not their fault. No good shouting at them, I know they are on decent money, but they are also humans, they must feel horrible being humiliated at home match in and match out.

I wish that Randy and the board would read some of the facebook comments on their own pages. The anger is there in spades. These are fans, they won`t want to be angry, they aren`t saying these things for no good reason. And not only are they fans, they are also customers to this business and if they aren`t listened to, what do they think will happen? Villa Park is not a happy place, we all know that stability would be lovely, but for stability you need the right manager, sadly until you get that, you have to make changes. If not, why did they get rid of Alex McLeish (who was always on a hiding to nothing) stating that Villa don`t accept mediocrity? An awful lot of those walking away or totally angry/dejected at the moment are the older, very sane, long standing fans by the way. This isn`t come day go day fans who just expect success or they are off. It`s fans who have been through thick and thin with this Club who just can`t stand it any more.

Lose the lifeblood of the club and see where we go from there. Not very far I would suggest.

We`ve had four years of mediocrity, this summer something has to be done to stop this rot. That should not include this incumbent and his foul mouthed assistant manager (he really is vile the way he shouts expletives to the players during games, how the hell is that going to help them? And his attitude to fans telling them to shut the f*** up stinks. He`s a disgrace to this great club). The press talks of Lambert being in talks for a new contract fill me with dread. Is Randy Lerner really now so distant that he thinks what Lambert is doing is anything other than destructive to this once proud club? How can anyone see what he is doing as progress?

Not sure how many of you have seen a worse squad than this, I`ve not. It fills me with dread and if we keep doing this, we will find ourselves in the Championship. It really is a long way away from the promised push for Champions League.

It`s make your mind up time Randy. You came in with promises and respect. You also said you`d never hold us back. Action is needed, are you up to it?

Randy, is mediocrity now acceptable at Villa Park? If so, can you please communicate this with us?
