Couldn`t do this last night, neither could Mike.

Paul Lambert spoke after the humiliating defeat against a 4th division team on www.avfc.co.uk

The Villa boss promised they would come out fighting at Villa Park and promised a ‘very different game`.

Talk on the pitch not off it right now.

Now fair enough, we are basically ‘just` 2-0 down and it is half time. Plenty of time to correct this and get through (not convinced a trip to Wembley would be a great thing for us the way we are playing, but that is an argument for another day) Whatever the ‘positives` a result last night is just not acceptable especially to the travelling fans who are usual, were immense.

Ok, so he talked of his disappointment and said the home leg they know “We’re in a game now, that’s for sure.”

Adding that the defending wasn`t good enough..

‘We had a lot of the ball and their keeper made some good saves but if you don’t defend set-pieces that’s what can happen. We had a lot of chances and on another night they might have gone in but that’s certainly not good enough.”

And on the home leg…. ‘We’re at home. We’ll have the majority of the crowd with us. But we know what we have to do. We certainly have to play a lot better than that. It’s a big game for us. It will be a different game at Villa Park, that’s for sure. You have to regroup. That’s what you have to do. We have to come out of the blocks. There’s no grey area.’

And Gabby on www.avfc.co.uk says they will ‘get the job done` next time.

He said: ‘We all knew it was going to be tough coming to Bradford. It was a big occasion. But we’re disappointed because we missed a lot of chances. On another day they would have gone in. But full credit to Bradford, they had a plan and it paid off for them.”

Bradford also missed other chances, hit the post AND had one cleared off the line by Delph by the way.

On a positive note he adds, ‘But it’s over two legs. We know we’ve got work to do but we’re relishing the challenge. We look to the second leg to put it right. We’re hurting in the dressing room, definitely. But it’s only half-time. We will go out sharp and looking to get the job done.”

Happy days!
