Paul Lambert can’t fault the players despite us going down 3-2 to an ever predictable 12 man Man United team.

Speaking to the Official Site and obviously choosing his words more carefully about the ‘prat’ (source BFR) in charge of the game, Lambert said:

‘I am proud, I thought they were outstanding. I couldn’t ask for anymore, but that’s why Manchester United are a top side, they do it week in week out. I am really proud with what they have given me. I think we’ve been playing well for a couple of weeks, hopefully the confidence will be there in abundance after that.’

Absolutely agree, that performance and how close we pushed the Mancs should give everybody a boost, the secret now though is to put in that type of performance against everybody and not just raise ourselves for the big games.

Lambert added that he believes the crowd are a good gauge on how well the team are doing, and he couldn’t fault the fans for their backing today, which makes the result even more annoying:

‘They are a young side but they are playing really well, they kept on going, I couldn’t fault them, I am absolutely gutted to lose because they gave me everything they had. The crowd are your gauge.’

As for individuals being picked, it’s no surprise following that performance.

Andi Weimann:

‘One thing about Andreas is he’s a natural finisher. Andi is a goalscorer, he’s a young lad but he seems to have been around for years. The future is very good.’

Christian Benteke:

‘Benteke was incredible for the build up. He was outstanding.’

Enda Stevens making his first starting debut in the league:

‘Enda was terrific. He was up against Valencia who was by no means a slouch. Enda gave me absolutely everything, as they all did.’

Man U Forum Thread.

Well we certainly deserved the point and with better refereeing we would have secured that, but there are more positives to take out of the game so it seems pointless to concentrate on what went against us. Focus on what went for us, further signs of improvement in our overall play and in our defensive play, and the balance of the squad is better in the 433 formation than it has been before.

We haven’t turned the corner yet, but the signs are there that we soon will.

The confidence boost from the performance has to be built on and taken into our upcoming games.

Very proud of the players today, keep it up lads.
