Paul Lambert has talked about having mixed emotions following our 3-3 draw with Everton today.
Speaking to the Official Site after Everton grabbed a point at the end of the game Lambert was forced to look at the positives.
‘My emotions are mixed. I thought we played really well throughout the game. Coming here, nobody gave us a chance. Everton are a right good side. We came here and I thought we played really well. We got the goal through Christian, Gabby’s goal was top class. Then the third we did score was world class. The front lads were excellent. You knew Everton were going to come at your strongly, but you just have to try and see the game through, which we never managed to do.’
Lambert also said it was important for us to get a foot hold on the game and not concede before going ahead, I won’t comment, but it’s another game we haven’t taken valuable points from, and whilst it’s good to see us being clinical up front given the very few chances we actually created, we are still defensively fragile and we are still struggling to create openings.
Today thankfully we took them, and it is at least a point, but that gaps growing at the bottom and it’s not comfortable.
What unfortunately is becoming a bit too common at the moment are lines like this though.
‘I probably got criticised for signing him (Christian Benteke) because he wasn’t a name, no one had heard of him, people thought ‘what’s Aston Villa doing signing him’. I’m pretty sure he’s put that to bed.’
Might be best to leave the judgements on ‘others’ until we are actually winning games and not in the bottom three Paul.
