Another late night, another startling (potential) development in our search for a new manager.
The Current Bun have tonight stated that Paul Lambert has quit Norwich City over their refusal to allow him the opportunity to hold official negotiations with Aston Villa over our vacant managerial hotseat.
They state that Lambert will now walk into the job with obviously some legal issues to be sorted out post haste with his contract and it will undoubtedly involve compensation.
It appears that Lambert was furious that Norwich wouldn’t even let him officially hear what we had to say and it has caused a bitter split at Delia’s club. Shame really given the success he had, would’ve been nice if they could’ve parted on more friendly terms.
They also say it’s the second time in 18 months that the board have refused Lambert permission to speak to a club, which given Martinez was a firm favourite – and tonight it’s being reported that despite his interest in the job, we passed him over as we didn’t want to wait after assessing all the candidates – it will lead some to wonder if we were the club last time round aswell. Of course that’s me speculating and I suspect somebody will put me right on that, but given it’s gone midnight don’t mind me if my head wanders a little.
Oh don’t mind me, The Sun say it was Burnley.
They also say, and this fits with the Martinez rebuff, that we made Lambert our number 1 long before Martinez turned his back on Liverpool and they announced Brendan Rogers earlier today.
Tomorrow will be interesting!
As ever folks, at the time of writing I cannot see any official communication from either Lambert or Norwich so don’t crack open the champers just yet, wait for tomorrow.
Update: The press are now going crackers so more likely to be true than not, welcome to the club Paul, the club clearly have listened to the fans this time, now let’s get it right on the pitch!
So this is hotting up!
Only press talk at the moment but the suggestion is that Paul Lambert has quit Norwich after being refused permission by the Carrow Road outfit to talk to Aston Villa about the vacant managerial spot.
www.thisislondon.co.uk amongst others have the report.
Details are very sketchy at the moment and again, as a warning, this is at the moment just press talk. The Sun and The Times are now also running the story but they have no more detail, apart from The Sun saying he had a ‘furious row` ! LOL
He does operate on a rolling contract, I guess it depends on the terms of the contract as to when he can end it.
Not sure whether this makes it easier for Villa or harder. If lawyers now have to get involved to see whether he is able to resign without notice etc, it could get messy? On the flipside if the contract allows or he is within the timing to be able to end the rolling contract (there must be a trigger date I`d assume?) then it might well open the way for us very nicely.
