Lambert Says NO Relegation For Villa

From the Birmingham Mail: Aston Villa: Paul Lambert rules out a relegation fight.

I didn`t realise you could do that in the rules but now we are safe, phew… short season though?!?!?!

In all seriousness, good interview by Mat Kendrick with Paul Lambert.

The Villa boss says he has no fear of a relegation fight at all following Villa flirting with the drop two seasons in a row.

He also says he has no doubt the players he has brought in, following accusations that they are all inexperienced Premiership wise, are good enough to fit straight in.

“Listen, we will fight with everything we have to have a really good season. All we can do is our best. That`s what we will do. Give everything we have. I have a great belief that the young lads can do it. I have no trepidation that they won`t do it. I know from experience, when you get really hungry players they can take you a long way.”

He also says he was happy with his transfer budget and that Randy Lerner WOULD have given him more if he`d asked.

Blimey!

The young and hungry plan was Lamberts, albeit one I know for a fact the Club have been very keen to move towards after having spent millions on players who came with big reputations only to flop or leave for less than their purchase price (see: All The Signings In the Randy Lerner Era Updated )

“Randy has been great – I`ve not had a problem, none whatsoever.” Adding, “Every football decision is mine. It`s my decision. I need to be comfortable in myself and I`m comfortable with what I`m trying to do.

We`ll do some polls next week asking fans what they think, at the moment we have the win/lose/draw for the Newcastle game, then the man of the match, after that we`ll drill down to your thoughts.

Early impressions folks? I`m – it seems – in the minority at the moment in our transfer thread: Click Here… in fact, I`m being told off or to have some faith! I`ll still be there, I support the manager, I like this board, I stand by my opinion that they are a good bunch, I have had the pleasure to get to know them and think they`ve done plenty good.

I do however, fear for this season. We`ve flirted two seasons on the trot with the drop and I`m not sure we`ve brought in enough experience to do what they are trying to do. YES we need to build, YES we need to change direction, YES we HAVE to build for the future, Randy can`t keep wasting HIS money. However… the here and now? Not sure. First two games showed massive gaps to me, in fact, the Everton game it looked like men v boys. I`m hoping I`ve just got the jitters and I SO want this lot to settle my nerves nice and quickly. I will do nothing but support now that the window is closed, but I`ll also have to employ Rev Pete to do some praying for me also (as I`m not religious)

Fingers crossed, if this lot click, it could be great to see a whole new approach.

Personally, I`d have mixed a bit of experience in as well…. This has to be the least top level experienced squad we`ve had in my lifetime? I`m hoping they dazzle. Mid table consolidation? Additions in Jan and then more next summer when more big wages leave on frees… And also, next season is the largest TV deal the PL has ever had. Hope we remain in the Prem to enjoy that.
