Paul Lambert has said he was delighted with how Villa stepped up a gear in the Crewe game and not only did he feel that was more like us, it was more like how he wants us to be.

As fans will know, we won the game 5-1 and were treated to a Christian Benteke hattrick to boot and the difference between the Luton game was quite marked when it came to effort in the final third – all the little one touch passes and movement were still there, but we certainly looked more determined to find the net this time round.

Speaking to the Official Site following the game, the gaffer said.

‘Some of the football was excellent. That was more like us. It was good to have Gabby and Andi back, Christian played an hour too. It was Helenius’ first 30 since Germany, we have Tonev, Okore and Bennett to come back too. It was very pleasing. The performance was good but we were disappointed to concede a goal. There are a lot of plusses, but there’s still a long way to go though, there’s still a lot of work to do.’

Speaking about those still to come back, Lambert said he was hopeful that Tonev and Okore would be playing some part in our friendly against Shamrock.
