Paul Lambert has said that he is disappointed following the Fulham result as we didn’t deserve to lose, but overall he was pleased with the performance.
Defensively maybe, otherwise I’d imagine plenty of fans disagree at this moment in time.
Speaking to the Official Site after the loss Lambert said.
‘It was hard to take because I don’t think we deserved to lose. It’s a tough place to come but I thought we gave as good as we got. To lose from a set piece was really disappointing. It was a close game, I didn’t think there was much in it. I thought we did fine, I thought some of our play was really good.’
Admittedly I didn’t see all of it, but in attacking terms we were back to the West Ham performance, very little movement or dare I say effort upfront for most of the game and then sitters missed.
We all know the team will have its ups and downs as we click and nobody knows if we’ll get a Southampton or a Man City performance, but lately whilst we seem to have been finding some consistency in performance, it’s hard to not say today was a total reverse of what we’ve been building on and developing.
I still say the time to worry though is if we haven’t clicked and started picking up consistent results by mid November, even allowing for newbies to the English game and newbies to the league, they should’ve totally adjusted by then and know the game we are going to play.
In the meantime it’s where we need the experienced players to give their all, and sadly I don’t believe that was the case today.
In the remainder of the interview he talks about how Gabby Agbonlahor and Darren Bent did really well up front and how he thought Christian Benteke had found the net with his chance.
About time we saw Andreas Weimann and Benteke methinks.
Fulham Match Thread – not for the faint hearted this week.
