A number of journalists have said they believe Paul Lambert’s job to be safe at Villa, despite our current form, but that Randy Lerner is well aware of the battle we are in.

Writing on the Birmingham Mail Mat Kendrick quotes the manager saying in response to the question was Randy showing concern about our recent run of results:

‘I’m pretty sure he is astute enough, I’m not silly. I know the pitfalls of the game. He’s been great with me since I’ve been here. I always speak to Randy, I’ve always had a good relationship with him.’

That relationship aside, Kendrick understand Lambert’s position is not in danger, and Lerner will instead look at further investment in the squad to ensure survival, rather than another change of manager again.

‘Listen, we have conversations all the time and it would be wrong for me to say there is X amount available. You can work with what you’ve got and if one or two come in, then great. As I said the other day, we will try and do something.’

Many fans were up in arms over Lambert’s earlier comments about fans being in dreamland when it came to names like Joleon Lescott and Scott Parker, but he didn’t rule out spending money, he ruled out those two, one of which has already said he isn’t leaving City, so you have to hope that whilst the press circle ‘no to Lescott’ rehashes, Lambert does have his eye on the ball on similar players who would do the same job for us.

Because we all know we need them!

On the subject of Lambert’s future, it brings us nicely to our most recent poll.

Should Lambert resign/be sacked

Yes, he’s taking us down – 23%
No, we’ll be ok – 60%
Really still unsure – 17%

That’s still a lot of faith compared to what you read on the forums and in comments, but you have to ask how much of that may be reliant on what we achieve in January, and on how we strengthen.

New poll asks in a similar vain.

Should Randy Stay Or Go?

Yes, he should stay
Yes, but this is his last chance
Yes, but we need better communication
No, he’s had his chance
Depends on how he backs Lambert this window?
No, fullstop
