More positives for Paul Lambert following our second friendly of the summer, but also plenty he knows we need to improve on.

Speaking to the Official Site Lambert was particularly pleased with the impact of our youngsters again…the really young youngsters.

‘It was a great goal from Andi. It was a through ball from Samir, Andi then did great to round the keeper and it was really pleasing. There are a lot of positive things here. We had young Josh coming over with Graham and Samir is here too. You blood one or two young ones, it’s good for them. They came in and coped well.’

As for another draw, Lambert is unconcerned because he knows it’s all about fitness and playing time at the moment to get the lads ready for the season ahead.

‘Winning these games is immaterial. You try to get everyone fit for that first game. The main thing for me is getting everyone fit, it’s another 45 minutes under the belts. But it’s a long, long way to go before we’re anywhere near match sharpness.’

He adds that there’s plenty of games left to take place when they get home, so it’s a lot of football still to be played before we kick off for real in August and he knows we’ll be at the level he wants and expects come the big kick off.

He also points out that SC Paderborn began their training five weeks ago, whereas we’ve only been back for just over a week, and fans concerned at yet another draw should actually factor that in.
