Late Drama Puts A Deserved Smile On Villa Faces – Match Stats
Having taken a creditable point against Brighton and Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium at the weekend – especially considering the lack of senior strikers – Aston Villa will be hoping to get back to winning ways in Tuesday nights clash with Watford.
Shutting up Troy Deeney would be an added bonus.
Villa were marginally on top in the first half as well for me, but a lack of tracking saw the visitors open the scoring just before the half time break from a simple cross and we had it all to do again.
There was plenty of bluster from us, but Watford seemed to make more with less of the ball when they countered and we just really didn’t have an end product again (despite greater chances) but with just over 20 minutes remaining, a bit of Jack magic, a Targett shot/cross saw Douglas Luiz rifle in the leveller and it was nothing more than we deserved.
Could we hold on, or could we nick a second?
Well, we did both. Ending the final 20 minutes completely on top with plenty of passion and spirit on show, we got our just deserts as Ezri Konsa netted late on in stoppage time.
The fat lady hasn’t quite sung yet and although the three points were much needed, whilst again far from being perfect, that performance is probably the biggest pick me up and you could see it on the faces at the full-time whistle.
