Vital Villa asked for your man of the match votes for the 2-1 win over Spurs.

No shock that the defensive rock AND goalscorer got the nod with 68% voting for Martin Laursen.

That left:

Scott Carson (5%)
Olof Mellberg (5%)
Curtis Davies (4%)
Gareth Barry (3%)
Ashley Young (3%)
Gabby Agbonlahor (3%)
Luke Moore (3%)
Stiliyan Petrov (3%)
Nigel Hokey-Cokey (2%)
Wilfred Bouma (1%)

Pretty resounding choice then. Talking about Laursen, want-away keeper Thomas Sorensen says he is sure that the player will stay at Villa. “I know he’s really happy here so if the offer is right, then I’m sure he’ll stay,” adding in the Express and Star, “Martin’s done really well – I sat behind the goal against Tottenham and watched him and just his presence in the air is immense. Just one flick can be really dangerous with three or four quick players around, but he won every single ball. I’ve seen him play really well before but his game really suits the Premier League. It’s very physical and there are a lot of balls in the box and if there was a world championship for heading, he’d be a gold medal contender, that’s for sure. That’s just his game.”

And Martin O’Neill has said he is desperate for Laursen to stay. Talking to the Birmingham Mail the Villa boss said: ‘I’ve spoken to his agent and we’re in the throes of putting some sort of proposals together. We’re listening and we’re talking now. We desperately and definitely want to keep him.’

With Laursen adding, ‘I think both parties have talked. I have just concentrated on playing football and I think the manager has as well. It has been a hard period. When we have got the Manchester United game out of the way, then we will meet up again. I told my agent to take care of everything. I trust him, I just want to concentrate on my football.’
