Martin O’Neill says he is pleased with Martin Laursen but after being out for so long with a horrendous knee injury the Danish international isn’t yet Premiership fit.
O’Neill said: ‘I was very pleased with Martin Laursen (who was a sub in the FC Groningen match last Friday); it is only his second half of football in over a year. He obviously needs games and when he is fully fit, he will be an acquisition to us.’
‘Martin certainly has a lot of determination. But I wouldn’t have thought he was Premiership fit at the moment. He’s getting stronger and feeling psychologically better each day. But I would say at the moment that’s right now asking a lot for him to play in the Premiership.’
So looks like Laursen won’t be ready for the Premiership kick-off against Arsenal next Saturday, but at least he is now close after at one stage fearing his footballing days were over.

Not sure he’ll even be MON’s first choice when fit. Ridge and Cahill have a good chance to stake a claim now.
Laursen, not fit? No!
He’s done remarkably well to get back to where he’s at now after such a career threatening injury. Despite his claims to the contrary, there must have been times when he feared he’d never kick a ball in anger again.
Laursen and mellberg could be a good partnership, lets just hope he rememebers how to play football after so long on the touchline, hopefully he will get a touchdown this season…sorry mean goal im becoming amercanized/americanised already!
