Vital Villa asked for your man-of-the-match vote following the 0-0 with Newcastle and quite rightly, Martin Laursen walked it with 68% of the vote!

Next up came our new midfield engine Nigel Reo-Coker, the Hokey Cokey got 21%.

Others that got a vote:

Scott Carson (4%)
Craig Gardner (3%)
Ashley Young (1%)
Stiliyan Petrov (1%)
Gabby Agbonlahor (1%)
John Carew (1%)

And those who didn’t record a vote:

Luke Moore (0%)
Gareth Barry (0%)
Olof Mellberg (0%)
Wilfred Bouma (0%)

We also asked for result predictions with 59% saying draw, 22% predicting a loss and 19% saying a win.

Our other poll last week was asking which right-back we should buy, the results were:

Bosingwa (60%)
Hoyte (25%)
Glen Johnson (6%)
Rosenior (4%)
Other (3%)
Bardsley (2%)

Our latest poll is asking what you think about John Carew.

  • He had no competition. Good, battling, all-round team performance, but Martin Laursen was simply outstanding.

  • Laursen was simply the best on the ground. The duel between him and vaduka was great to watch. Of the rest I think Bouma was excellant. On another day a MOTM Performance for me.

  • Laursen is a world class defender, only Nesta and Maldini kept him on the bench at Milan, which isn’t something to be ashamed of. If he stays fit, he’s worth 20 points a season. Bouma looked good, bit of first game nerves last week, but seems to have got back into it, outstanding at left back, even when he made a mistake, he rtectified it instantly. NOW SIGN A RIGHT BACK MON< AND SOME COVER FOR THESE GUYS, PLEASE !!!!!!

  • Laursen is the best player to don the claret and blue since McGrath i think with his dodgy knee maybe making him train less would benefit him.

  • Laursen seems to thrive in a more physical match so i can see where the McGrath link comes from chris.I thought he had a great game……..Keep it up !! 🙂

  • laursen was simply superb simple as.reo coker also excellent and proving MON has produced a shrewd piece of business snapping him up,improves the side so much from the days of mccann although he was disappointing last week against scousers.

  • There were a lot of quality individual showings in what was a very good team performance. Agree that both NRC and Freddie deserve mentions, they gave their all, in what at times got to be a really competitive battle.

  • I agree that Laursen was man of the match. To be honest, I think that Petrov had an exacellent game as well as NRC. He got through a lot of work and made some very nice runs off the ball without being picked out. Also, his cross-field pass to Carew in the second half was a game-winner, if only Carew knew how much time and spece he had!!

  • Petrov’s best game since his debut last season, but still needs to improve. Laursen and NRC were outstanding. all round good performance from the lads. disapointed we did get all 3 points. Newcastle didn’t look any better than the team from last season.

  • Laursen MOM. However I cant let the weekend pass without mentioning the appalling refereeing decision that Liverpool suffered against Chelsea. 8 days after their game against the Villa…..My heart bleeds!!!

  • i didnt manage to get to the game so i am going on what i heard on the radio and saw on MOTD but Laursen looked class. We need some cover for him asap please. Also agree with andrew 144, again the ref was 10 yards away and gets it wrong. Shades of villa liverpool.

  • I also thought that Craig Gardner had an excellent game considering he was playing out of position. Milner only really got the better of him once or twice and he’s a 21’s international. That’s one of the best all round team performances I’ve seen for a while and whilst we’re still trying to gel – I’m pretty optimistic that when we’re firing on all cylinders – we will be very difficult to beat.

  • isn’t it ironic that barry had an average game when mcclaren was watching from the stands? it seems whenever he is not watching, barry is awesome – like 95% of the time

  • It was a good team performance but these players are not going to be available all season and we are desperately short of cover, we are not even being linked with anyone apart from Davis and if the baggies think he’s worth 15M they’re having a laugh.

  • Petrov did indeed play well, a very encouraging showing from him. Thought Gardner was turned inside out by James Milner at times, and only when we put two men on Milner did we nullify the threat.
