Martin O’Neill says that he’ll have talks with midfielder Lee Hendrie when he returns to Villa on Monday.

Hendrie came to the end of his loan spell with Stoke City today as Stoke beat Leeds 3-1, now he has to see where his future lies:

‘Lee’s three-month loan period is up after this Saturday. We will be assessing every situation after the weekend. There will be a decision by the time we play on Saturday week. What you can do is you can extend the loan but it does not allow any recall and it would then go on until the end of the season. I will assess things during the next week. Lee and I will sit down. Lee has been a Villa man all his life and this is where his heart is. I am quite sure Lee would want to come back.’

What do you think, should Lil Lee be brought back into the Villa fold, or are his chips up? Our latest poll asks the very same question!

  • Surely after today’s defeat which confirms the weakness of the current squad he must come back? At present Hendry must offer more than say Osbourne. OK he may be for the future but we need a win or two now.

  • After Today I feel a little worried, I think we all agree that we have been unlucky in the last couple of games. I am sure martin will turn things around but I cannot see anything out of the next 3 games inc the cup game at manure, so we will be looking hard at the trap door (again). I think after those games and with new players we will start to climb again although Europe is out for this season. Very dissapointed in Petrov and would not cry too much if the return to Celtic rumour is true, at this stage I believe Hendrie would do a better job for us.

  • Injuries apart results lately think we may well need Hendrie till the end of the season at least, I dont know how long a contract he wants before siging for Middlesvilla??

  • Hendrie has bags of experience and skill compared to what our current midfielders are offering. Not to knock the efforts of the youngsters, but they are young and inexperienced. All the youthful vigour in the world will not make up for errant passing and lack of confidence on the ball (especially in a shooting situation). Get him back in the side immediately. The clincher for me is that he really wants to play.

  • Got to give the lad a chance, as long as he can control his “passion for the game” then he could be a game changer, understand the remarks v Petrov, but all we have seen so far is a player who started well, got injured and has not fully recovered, Judge him when he is fit not when he is carrying an injury and still going out there and working for and damaging himself more for our club.

  • Ditch Lee Hendrie, we only talk about him when we are going through dry spells anyway. When we win games, his name is mentioned as much as a certain individual who used to own the club. I’m sick to death of hearing about how this season will be ‘his season’, he’s had so many chances but all he seems able to do is get himself into stupid spats and petulance. While it’s not ideal i’d rather see Gardner getting his chance over Hendrie.

  • Totally agree that Hendrie would have offered us much more than Gardner and Osbourne in the midfield. He must be brought back at least until the summer as MON may not get the quality we need in the transfer window and may have to wait until the summer to get his top targets..!

  • I find it hard to believe he didn’t bring him back ages ago. It speaks volumes for MONs opinion of him I think that he hasn’t brought him back before now, preferring to play kids like Osbourne and Gardner instead,

  • Are you mad? Bring LH back? Nope. Yestredays man. Had 101 chances to do it for us and you always get a hot streak of 4 or 5 games (e.g. before a new contract) and then dross. Nope. Lets look forward, Surely by the end of Jan we will have reinforcements.

  • Pike, at the moment I for one would take that hot streak of 4 or 5 games, then when/if his form drops off then get rid. we need the numbers at the moment.

  • True enough, Pike. We shouldn’t need him, providing we get some bodies in (which we will). I totally agree that he is yesterdays man and has had more than his share of opportunities,BUT he may prove useful for us yet as experienced cover.

  • Get rid of Lee Hendrie please. We shouldn’t offer this guy a new contract under any circumstances, lets let some other mug pay for his Ferrari’s.

  • As things stand today, he surely has a role to play at Villa Park, and it simply makes sense to keep him at the club until the summer at least. He offers options and alternatives that maybe aren’t there for us at the moment, and unless the situation changes dramatically as new faces arrive during the month, he will become an immediate contender for first team inclusion.

  • And its worth remembering it is his Testimonial Year….. got to stand for something in these money driven days.

  • Sick of all this Hendrie talk now. We need to move on and bring in some fresh faces not go backwards.

  • Well at least he is not on the team sheet for tonight, well so far anyway. can’t see him having a future at the club, but will trust MON to make the right decision.
