The Sunday Times claim that Randy Lerner is favourite to complete the takeover at Aston Villa.

Randy, who has met new manager Martin O’Neill several times and is happy with his appointment, is said to be ahead of the other interested parties and it is hoped the deal will be sealed very soon.

The Sunday Times quote former Browns player and now broadcaster as saying:

‘He is really driven to provide a winner, not just a winning team but the winner.’

They also quote a source ‘close to Lerner’ as saying a decision will be made in days.

Meanwhile the Mirror have sources close to AV06 claiming they would give Martin O’Neill £50million to spend this season, £30million now and a further £20million in the January transfer window. Not sure the timing is right though, if no firm bid has been made and due diligence hasn’t started, then they would surely struggle to be in before the transfer window closes at the end of August?

Whatever happens, it looks like a new order will be taking the reigns of this magnificent club.
