The Sunday Times claim that Randy Lerner is favourite to complete the takeover at Aston Villa.

Randy, who has met new manager Martin O’Neill several times and is happy with his appointment, is said to be ahead of the other interested parties and it is hoped the deal will be sealed very soon.

The Sunday Times quote former Browns player and now broadcaster as saying:

‘He is really driven to provide a winner, not just a winning team but the winner.’

They also quote a source ‘close to Lerner’ as saying a decision will be made in days.

Meanwhile the Mirror have sources close to AV06 claiming they would give Martin O’Neill £50million to spend this season, £30million now and a further £20million in the January transfer window. Not sure the timing is right though, if no firm bid has been made and due diligence hasn’t started, then they would surely struggle to be in before the transfer window closes at the end of August?

Whatever happens, it looks like a new order will be taking the reigns of this magnificent club.

  • No point in spending £30 Million when you dont know what players you have available. I agree a few positions need some class/experience but i would think MON will be very shrewd in the market. I can see only blue skies ahead. I hope Randy gets his bid in

  • I agree with Donzarra, O’Neill will not just splash the cash no matter what, he will be a shrewd investor and only use big money, if made available, on key players that he really can’t do without. He won’t be doing a Chelsea.

  • It’s foolish to reveal how much cash you’ve got to spend anyway – the first thing clubs will do if that bid is succesful is up the players value by a few million!

  • Here’s what you’ll get…an owner that knows NOTHING about your sport, an owner who will trust his front office people 100% 9and let them work out most of their own internal fights), an owner who will stay out of the papers, an owner that will be satisfie

  • Sounds like the perfect owner, likes the sucess but stays out of the way of those that know what they are doing.

  • Yes, everything I read and hear about the guy indicates that this is the man to take the club forward.

  • Pitty he’s not a Brit though, would be nice to have one of our own, preferably a fan too but I’ll not look a gift horse in the mouth, beggers can’t be choosers, and don’t forget, look befor you leep. ;o)

  • Where do all these crap rumours come from. Lerner has said that is will not make any comment on the situation lest he misleads anyone. This is both sensible and the according to the rules of business the right thing to do. So who is the idiot who keeps on

  • I’m too young to remember the glory days so i’m very happy that we could be on the verge of a new set of glory days. Great manager, potentialy great owners.

  • Any new owner will be great, I think Lerner would be the best just because we know he has the money and it is not a consortium of people we dont know……. THE TRUTH IS SOMEWHERE, right Steve

  • Phase one completed with the appointment of MON and the completion of phase two…new owners not that far away
