With the media working themselves into a hissyfit as they went full on clickbait with regards to the speculation that we would be appointing Thierry Henry as manager, Steve Bruce was known to be meeting our new owners today to discuss the future.

The future being discussed was his, at the club, as he continues to prepare for the coming 2018/19 Championship campaign and such has been the plethora of claims lately even Bruce looked reticent answering questions on the subject as he commented it was always an owner’s prerogative to appoint a new manager when they get their feet under the table at a club.

A brief statement from the Official Site tonight will at least temporarily put a hold on the Henry rumours as having met the new duo of Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens he has their ‘full support’ to continue pre-season work.

I’m not daft enough to think this will end the speculation, a loss tonight in the friendly will start some off again, but it at least calms things for now as we focus on the important challenges that remain ahead of us. We needed the stability and Bruce deserves a shot with the club run properly off the pitch.

Over to him but it’s fair to acknowledge that unless he surpasses all expectations we will be welcoming a new gaffer this time next year as we all have our own go-to flaws that we’d love to see Bruce improve on.

But for now, it’s as we were.

  • The Axe man,is standing in the wings,if SB produces the same scenario, only hope I’m wrong
but once a Dinasour etc. A leopard never changes its spots. The axe is polished SB, talk your
Way out this season. Unless you. Change your gone by Christmas. These two billionaires won’t
    fall for balls up

  • I can’t believe how many fans are still wanting Bruce to stay. Did they not watch us last season?? With the players (incoming, loans and strong youth) and the wage bill we carry – significantly higher than others – we should have been steamrollering most of the opposition (as Wolves did regularly).

Bruce is tactically poor (formation, style of play, lack of plan B, and substitutions), does not understand midfielders (Hourihane is not an “8”, Lansbury and Onomah are “8”‘s, Jack is a “10”/inside forward), is reactive not proactive – only changes when the team screws up (as evidenced by the play off final when he kept the team that beat Boro’ to play a very different side in Fulham where we needed mobility in CM and the away game at the Molineus where he went with a 4-4-2 with a immobile CM) and does not understand youth development.

I think this is a mistake. I hope that I am wrong!!

And by the way, I don’t “hate” Steve Bruce – he seems like a good guy and a real football man – I just don’t believe that he is the right man to take AVFC forward.

  • Agree totally Barry. Had hoped we now had owners who were leaders. Don’t they know that listening to villa supporters leads to Lamberk! I cant believe that many of those against Henry have done nothing but moan about Bruce. I think this was an opportunity missed. Just watched 10 mins of West Ham match being given the run around by WHU who look like they are still only in 2nd gear!! Same old same old. I feel like a kid who had a glimpse at his shinny new bike only to find, on Christmas day that under the wrapping its his crap old one!!! 🙁

  • Huge mistake, we have a blank canvas for some great manager. I guess they choose on the premise of ffp and Bruce being a specialist in championship football. I can assure once we back to pl he will be gone.

  • Agreed Barry. SB is obviously a very nice, honest guy but the football we have seen since his arrival is totally outdated and not good to watch either. The only other point he offers is stability which is important taking into account the last few years.
Having said that, if SB was to be replaced I would be very nervous about replacing him with a new coach like Thierry Henry who has absolutely no relevant experience at all.

  • Who is manager now is muddled up with the fact that until 2019 we restrained from spending. Once this 3 year ffp is over and the wallet is allowèd to come out again. Can’t see promotion this year whoever is manager. Big mess to clean before new journey.

    • Master ranter made an indelible mark on me especially during AMc reign. Some current contributers bring this person to mind. I would hope they are at least qualified to FIFA 18 and Football Manager 17 level. GRRRRH!!! Nice to get this one off my chest.

  • Can’t wait for more brucie signings haven’t been impressed with any of them so far . and on last nites performance against spam we where shite really .
