With the media working themselves into a hissyfit as they went full on clickbait with regards to the speculation that we would be appointing Thierry Henry as manager, Steve Bruce was known to be meeting our new owners today to discuss the future.

The future being discussed was his, at the club, as he continues to prepare for the coming 2018/19 Championship campaign and such has been the plethora of claims lately even Bruce looked reticent answering questions on the subject as he commented it was always an owner’s prerogative to appoint a new manager when they get their feet under the table at a club.

A brief statement from the Official Site tonight will at least temporarily put a hold on the Henry rumours as having met the new duo of Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens he has their ‘full support’ to continue pre-season work.

I’m not daft enough to think this will end the speculation, a loss tonight in the friendly will start some off again, but it at least calms things for now as we focus on the important challenges that remain ahead of us. We needed the stability and Bruce deserves a shot with the club run properly off the pitch.

Over to him but it’s fair to acknowledge that unless he surpasses all expectations we will be welcoming a new gaffer this time next year as we all have our own go-to flaws that we’d love to see Bruce improve on.

But for now, it’s as we were.
